GMC's Auto Repair History
In 1908 and 1909, William C. Durant gained control of Reliance Motor Car Company and Rapid Motor Vehicle Company. In 1911, these two companies were folded into each other, forming the General Motors Truck Company. During the first World War, GMTC became one of the main producers for the army, as 90% of their production was for military use. GMTC earned a Distinguished Service Award for their efforts in the war and they continued that service into the second World War. In 1937, GMTC introduced its first SUV known as the Suburban, which later has its name changed to Yukon. In 1960, GMTC began a transition from commercial vehicles to personal vehicles by introducing the Sierra, the brand's first full-size personal-use pickup truck. In 1973, GMTC introduced its new "rounded line" truck series, broadening its portfolio of available vehicles. The 1980s brought another new introduction, a compact pickup known as the S-15, further expanding their line. In 1996, the word "truck" was dropped from the GMTC name to reflect the division's image as a premium producer of not just trucks, but vans and sport-utility vehicles as well. Looking at GMC today, they have released new vehicles with their Professional Grade positioning which is seen through engineering excellence and innovation heritage.

1919 GMC Tanker
In 1919, GMC released its first post-war truck in the GMC Tanker. This was very different from what they were producing, as their main production was trucks and light-ambulances for the army. GMC Typhoon
This two-door SUV is a rare GMC vehicle as only 5,000 were produced in 1991 - 1993. It was based on the GMC Jimmy and was powered by a turbocharged 4.3L V6 engine with solid horsepower and torque. GMC Safari
This cargo and passenger van by GMC lasted from 1992 - 2005. It was never a great car for gas mileage but was able to seat many people and hold lots of cargo, making it viable for drivers looking for both.
